The White Rabbit from our friends in the UK, RayGun FX, is an extremely versatile and easy-to-use fuzz pedal, with many small nuances and settings that can go from boost to blitzkrieg and all sorts of stuff in between. Simple controls with big range produce gorgeous fuzz tones here, let’s give it a run-through, shall we?
The overall size and layout of the White Rabbit are perfect, with an enclosure that’s not going to force you to rearrange your entire pedalboard, and can sneak into the tightest of spaces if you need it to. The 3 simple control knobs are positioned perfectly, allowing you easy access to changing settings on the fly, but far enough from your foot that you won’t easily switch anything once you’ve got your tones dialed in. The Volume controls your overall output, and the Tone and Fuzz knobs have a vast range of sounds and sonic textures, sure to conjure up any dirty rock tunes you’re currently covering, or adding a sweet new tone into your original song lineup. Gritty and powerful from the start, the White Rabbit can also be used as just a simple, slightly overdriven booster pedal as well.
Start playing with different combinations of the Tone and Fuzz knobs, and a whole new world of possibilities opens up before your ears, and will have you busting out a pad of paper to write down all the various settings you’ll need once you get through with this guy. With the Fuzz cranked, it’s a balls-out beast, driving any amp into oblivion, all the while maintaining your guitar pickups’ sound, and keeping your signal warm and crisp, without putting too much color into the mix. The Tone knob doesn’t let you get too screechy, either, keeping the highs to an acceptable level even when maxed out, and the Lows add some beautiful beef to the other end of the spectrum, allowing for a smooth, deep growl to find it’s way through your amp and out of the speakers.
I’m really digging these pedals from RayGun FX – each one I’ve played has been a breath of fresh air, with great tonal ranges and awesome sonic properties (and they’re really well priced, too!). The White Rabbit can absolutely cover the majority of your fuzzy needs, and do so without overpowering either your tone or your board. Make sure to go check out the RayGun website, they’ve got a ton of great stuff waiting to be heard!
